EGX 2017 Results
EGX 2017, held in Birmingham, England from September 22nd through 24th, is over and UK’s Mousesports|Problem X has taken 1st place! This is Problem X’s first Premier Event win of 2017, but he has won three Ranking Events so far this season! Japan’s Gachikun takes 2nd place and adds to his already impressive CPT point total. Belgium’s Takamura_B took 3rd place. Now let’s take a look at the full EGX 2017 results for top 64!

EGX 2017 Highlights
The 2017 Capcom Pro Tour season is nearing its conclusion and the race for CPT points is on! EGX 2017 is the final Premier Event for CPT Europe and next week is the EU Regional Finals at Milan Games Week. With the end of the season so close, there is the inevitable scramble by some players in the running for Capcom Cup 2017 to get enough points to either get into a position to earn a spot or to shore up a position more securely.
Europe did a good job of defending its home turf with only three players in the top 8 being from Asia. Two of the top 3 placements were held by Europeans, with UK’s Mousesports|Problem X taking 1st place, Japan’s Gachikun taking 2nd place and Belgium’s Epsilon|Takamura_B taking 3rd place.
Mousesports|Problem X earned his first Premier Event win of the season here at EGX 2017. He’s been on a roll lately, earning his third Ranking Event win of the season last week. With Capcom Cup so close, this is a great time to have a hot streak. His incredible M.Bison play knocked out opponent after opponent and he won Grand Finals in Winners Bracket, undefeated for the event.
Gachikun’s Rashid, once again, seemed unstoppable for virtually the entire event. Only Problem X was able to come out on top against Gachikun’s withering offense, defeating him in a close match in Winners semi-Finals and once again at Grand Finals.
This event’s big surprise was ECV|Hiruko from the Netherlands. Prior to EGX he earned just 11 CPT points all year having taken part in several events but at this event he hit a whole new level. He got into top 16 in the winners bracket and eliminated Japan’s Mago before losing to Epsilon|Takamura_B. He would finally be eliminated by Infused|GunSlinga in Top 8. He ended the event at 4th place and certainly raised his profile among fans and his fellow players.
There were many more great storylines that took place at EGX 2017 and a lot of incredible matches. Here we will showcase just a few of the highlight events from the event.
Mousesports|Problem X vs PandaTV|Jiewa in Top 16
China’s PandaTV|Jiewa certainly gave Problem X a run for his money in top 16. Jiewa’s Akuma would make good use of neutral and back jumps to catch some of Problem X’s attacks. Both players put up persistent offense and this was a nail-biter to the very end.
Mago vs ECV|Hiruko in top 16
ECV|Hiruko had a breakout performance at EGX 2017 and this match against Japanese veteran Mago is a perfect example. This match had a lot of back and forth momentum swings but Hiruko would get the win and eliminate Mago fairly decisively.
Gachikun vs Mousesports|Problem X in Top 8 Winners Semi-Finals
Problem X would take an early 2-0 lead but Gachikun would fight his way back to tie it up 2-2. It all came down to the final round in this great match but Problem X would get the win and send Gachikun to the Losers bracket.
Infused|GunSlinga vs PandaTV|Jiewa in Losers Top 8
The kinetic energy in this match was off the charts as both players virtually threw defense to the wind and went on relentless offense. GunSlinga used Balrog’s Turnaround Punch (TAP) to inflict ridiculous damage on Jiewa’s low-health Akuma while Jiewa’s offense bordered on reckless. This was a thrilling match with GunSlinga coming out on top.
Gachikun vs Epsilon|Takamura_B in Losers Finals
We realize that we’re featuring a lot of Gachikun matches in this highlights post but he’s just so exciting to watch. Match him up against Belgium’s Takamura_B, who has turned out to be one of the best Ken players of the 2017 season, and we knew we were in for a fun match.
Mousesports|Problem X vs Gachikun in Grand Finals
In Grand Finals Problem X took another early lead, going up 2-0 in the first two games. Just like their previous encounter in Winners Semi-Finals, the momentum would swing toward the other player and Gachikun would fight very hard to win the next two to tie it up at 2-2. Gachikun would win the first round of the 3rd game and be within one round of resetting the bracket but it was not to be. Problem X turned on the offense, sometimes using crossover teleports to open up Gachikun’s defense. Problem X would win the next two very close rounds to bring home the 1st place victory in thrilling fashion.
